Surrey is a city in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is a coastal city located south of the Fraser River and east of Vancouver. Surrey was incorporated in 1879 and encompasses parts of the traditional territories of the Sto:lo, Similkameen, and Nicomekl peoples. The City of Surrey has a population of 517,887 people according to the 2016 Census.

Since its incorporation, Surrey has experienced rapid growth. It is now the province’s second-largest city and the sixth-largest municipality in Canada by population.
